Tonight I went out on a date with my precious 5 year old. Thomas has been having a rough go of it lately. He has been acting out more than usual and I decided that he needed some POSITIVE attention. :):):)
Tuesday night is my "Mommy's night out" night and so, yesterday, I told Thomas that I was going to take him with me. He was so excited. It CRACKS me up that my kids want to be with me so much. Judah SOBBED when we left this evening. For crying out loud (no pun intended) they act like they are away from me all day long instead of homeschooled and with me practically 24-7. heehee :):):) (Secretly I love it...most of the time...I WOULD like to get to the point where I could at least use the bathroom without an audience.)
Anyway, Thomas and I took our bikes and headed to the park (Henderson Falls for you locals). We picked up McD's on the way (Thomas' request) and after we ate dinner outside at one of the picnic tables we rode our bikes for about an hour. It was SO much fun. Thomas talks NON-STOP! This would be fine if he were just talking but most of the time he is curiously asking question after question. It gets exhausting. :) I forget how observant he is. While we were eating there was a group of older teens (co-ed group) just hanging out. The guys were talking "trash" and used the F word a few times. Thomas looked at me and asked, "Why are they talking weird?" It was really funny. I told him that those were not appropriate words and that he shouldn't repeat them. :)
After we rode our bikes I took him to the Perk Up coffee shop and we ordered drinks (Chai Latte for me and Hot Chocolate for him) and snacks (huge cookie for him and WONDERFUL brownie for me) and then played some of the games they have there. He got bored about 1/3 of the way through Candy Land (thank goodness!!!!) and we switched to Connect Four. However, I beat him on that one and he decided he didn't like that game. We then played Chutes and Ladders. He beat ME that time. After that he was starting to get tired but wasn't about to tell me. We watched part of a softball game on the TV there and then headed over to Walmart. I needed a measuring tape and I decided to buy a Tie Dye kit for me and the boys to try. Judah had been asking me about that. All in all it was a great night. At one point, while we were riding our bikes, he turned to me and said, "You're the Bestest Mommy!" I asked him what made me the bestest. He said he didn't know. I said, "What do I do that makes me the bestest?" He thought and said, "You teach us school."
This is hilarious coming from Thomas. He has given that answer more than once. The funny part about it is that he is the kid who is CONSTANTLY asking to go away to school. Heehee. Either homeschool is growing on him or he is realizing that I do it because we feel it's best and because I LIKE hanging out with them. (Well, most of the time anyway! Don't paint me as a saint cuz I sure AIN'T!!)
We arrived home to find Michael and Judah curled up together, eating popcorn and watching Adam 12 reruns. Thomas was quick to join in. :)
Tomorrow after Judah completes his Math assignments I am taking the boys hiking at Toccoa Falls College. The big waterfall is the main draw there but what most people don't realize is...that in the woods, a short hike away is what we (alumni of TFC) call "Little Falls". It's beautiful and has a pool under it that hopefully is deep enough for us to play in. Usually we just go down the road to the State park but, due to the drought, the Beach is closed this summer there. MAJOR BUMMER!!! We usually go there several times a week in the summer. We have a annual park pass for BOTH vehicles!! Anyway, it's supposed to be 96 degrees tomorrow. Summer has officially arrived and I'm LOVING it!! Can't wait to hike and play in the water.
I guess I should go get some sleep. Too bad I'm not a bit tired. :P
Have a great day tomorrow everyone!
Blessings!- Angela :)
