We were having family devotions night before last and we were reading about Jesus dying on the cross for us. We got to the part about how some in the crowd were mocking Him about not being able to "save Himself". I turned to the boys and asked them why, if He was God, He didn't get down and save Himself? Their first response (collectively) was because He had nails in His feet and hands and if He got down then they would have had to nail Him all over again. :) Well, I informed them that He could have certainly gotten down off the cross if He's wanted to because He was God and He can do anything. So I asked them the question again. "Why, if He was God and He could have gotten down, did Jesus choose to stay on the cross?" Thomas' reply was this, "Because we needed His blood."
We sure did. Praise the Lord for His gift of Himself in the form of a baby and later in the form of the most awesome display of love and sacrifice ever.
