Quick Update

It's late but I thought I'd post a quick update on Gid's foot. It is healing very slowly but well. I expected the slowness because of the depth of the gash and also the location. It has not gotten infected. We tape it every day or every other day depending on how well the tape holds. He tolerates the taping very very well. In fact, the other day the tape had come off but I didn't realize it. He was fussing at the hall bathroom door (Where we have a baby gate) and wanting in. He is not allowed in there and I couldn't figure out what he could want. There is nothing of his in the cabinet of that bathroom. Shortly after I noticed the absence of the bandage and asked Thomas where the tape was. Usually it is in the master bathroom. Thomas replied, "It's in the hall bathroom." He showed me that it was on the counter next to the sink in the hall bath. I brought Gideon to the baby gate and pointed to the tape. I asked him if that was what he had wanted earlier. He got SO excited. It WAS what he was wanting earlier. He was trying to tell me his foot needed retaping. He's the greatest toddler. More tomorrow on his greatness. Tonight I need to get some sleep. BLESSINGS everyone!- Angela :)

Just when you thought...

it couldn't get any worse with the useless information about me...I got TAGGED!! LOL
Poor timing, I know but I feel the need to do it anyway. Especially since I hardly ever get tagged.

So the rules for this one are...
Here's how you play. Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 weird, random things, facts or habits about yourself. At the end, you choose 10 people to be tagged, listing their names and why you chose them to be tagged.

Just so you know. I an forgoing the customary TAGGING of others because we've all done 2 just recently. So...10 things...Hmmm...I wonder if I could do 10 things that are NOT repeats from the last three I've done....let's see....here goes...

1. I am a TOTAL night owl.
2. I can be very insecure about myself and who I am.
3. I LOVE my down comforter that I've had for 8 months now.
4. I like my sheets to be either flannel or the T-shirt material kind.
5. I prefer thick plush carpeting but due to money have never had it.
6. I go barefoot as much as possible.
7. I miss the Zambian believers and kids I hung around with in Africa, even though it's been nine years since I went.
8. If the dessert doesn't contain chocolate in some form or fashion I usually don't waste the calories on it.
9. I am capable of eating half a large pizza. (notice the word capable. This is not a normal indulgence. LOL)
10. I love rainbows and butterflies.

Mr. Creative

OK, So tonight we were doing family devotions. Usually we read a Bible story but lately we have been reading out of the boys Cubbie books from last year's Awana program. Anyway...

The story was cute. It was about 3 friends who were crossing a meadow to get to the park so they could have a picnic there. Well, the lamb, who was carrying the picnic basket, was skipping and every time she skipped another item fell out of the basket. So, by the time they got to the park all the food was out of the basket. They sat down for their picnic and realized their dilemma. The story actually didn't have an ending. You were supposed to tell what you thought the friends did next. Thomas, Judah, and I read the story through without Michael who was at the store. Then when Michael got back we read it again and he said what he thought the friends did next...These were the different answers-

Thomas- They turned around, went back and got the food. Then they came back and had their picnic.

Judah- They lost their food because they were skipping.

Michael- (who, if you remember, didn't hear the other answers) They went into the woods and shot a wild turkey, roasted it over a spit and ate it. The lamb whittled a tube out of a stick and stuck it into a tree and they collected maple syrup that they poured over the blueberries they collected.

ROFL- Is that a MAN answer or what?

I don't know if you laughed as hard as I did or not. You may have had to be there, but it was HILARIOUS!

Blessings!-Angela :)

Addendum

I did take Gideon in for a tetanus shot this afternoon. The Dr called me back after hearing what her nurse told me. She recommended it and I agreed. So, poor baby got his first vaccine today and more chocolate-2 pieces- that Thomas INSISTED on bringing because he didn't want Gideon to be sad. It was such a sweet compassionate request that I couldn't resist even though I really didn't want him to have more. :):):)

now if I could just keep him off his foot. I wonder if they sell Benadryl by the gallon??

For you literal people..I'M JUST KIDDING!!! ...about continuously drugging him but I may have to at least once or twice tomorrow.
Blessings!- Angela :)

This must be...

GLUE your children back together week. If you have no idea what I'm talking about read http://thekissackfamily.blogspot.com/2007/07/we-interrupt-regularly-scheduled.html

(sorry I still don't know how to do that with just a name)

It was a basically typical morning here except that Michael took Thomas with him to deliver garbage cans. I took Judah and Gideon to Walmart to go grocery shopping. Then we came home, unloaded the groceries, and played outside for about 1/2 hour. Judah was getting hot so he wanted to go inside. Judah and I were playing games at the computer in the guest room. We were almost done when I noticed that Gideon had removed the register cover (you know the metal part). Since there are sharp screws sticking out inside the tube I was about to go and get him. He dropped the metal thing down the hole. Then IT happened....he fell in. (if there were music to this it would be the DUM DU-DU DUM kind) He was stuck so I lifted him out. I figured he had probably cut his foot on one of the screws. I was not looking forward to seeing the damage. He wasn't screaming. He was just crying. When I lifted him out blood ran down his leg and onto both me and the floor.I rushed him into my bathroom hoping to save the cream colored carpet (That I will again mention- we didn't install. It came with the house.) However, my bathroom door was locked in an effort to keep Gideon out. (ironic, isn't it) So there I was with Gideon dripping blood all over trying to grab the key to unlock the door. I got him into the sink and cleaned away the blood but it was still streaming. I couldn't even tell at this point where it was coming from. So I grabbed a hand towel and applied pressure hoping to stop the bleeding. Gideon didn't seem to care for any of this treatment. (I'm not sure why?) :):)

After a few minutes I was able to assess the damage and realized it was a pretty deep gash in between his fourth and little toe. The good news was that the skin seem to lay so well I figured we could glue it, tape the last two toes together, and be done with it. I would strongly urge you NOT to try this at home unless you have seen a child be super glued in the ER. (I happen to have witnessed this TWICE before and figured I could handle it here; especially considering it wasn't on the face where scarring was going to be an issue.) Anyway, we were out of super glue. GRRRR I had to call Michael and ask him to bring some home and also some adhesive tape. I tried wrapping the last two toes together with bandaids but it was bleeding again before too long. SIGH. (keeping him off his feet for a day or two is going to be TORTURE!!) Thank goodness it stopped bleeding after a few minutes. During this time I'm trying to get Gideon lunch, myself lunch, get Judah's video set up for him, etc.

Then the thought occurs to me- "OH NO! He's not had a tetnus shot yet!" ( we start immuniztions after they are a year old. Most of you know why. If you want an explaination- email me) I called the nurse and explained that the metal wasn't rusty and was relatively clean. She said just to watch him carefully for fever or signs of infection. I would have done that anyway. (side note- please pray against a tetnus infection) So, I was waiting for Michael and Thomas to come home with "the goods".

They arrived and I cleaned Gid's foot up again (Aided by the chocolate chips Judah kept putting in his mouth).

Judah and Thomas kept feeding him the chocolate chips while I glued his wound together. Michael was there holding Gid's leg and trying to distract him. The funny (and annoying) thing was that Gid was so happy to see Michael he kept trying to kick his feet. With the chocolate distractions we got it together with relative ease. Then I taped his last two toes together with heavy duty adhesive tape. He's sleeping now. Poor baby. He's all worn out.

ho hum...
All in a day's work....thankfully not a daily chore.

Explaination

Well, I am back but probably only part time for a while. It is taking AGES to recover from this virus. I made two beds yesterday and then had to stop and catch my breath. After I made lunch yest I had to stop and sit and catch my breath. The best one of all was Saturday night. I did 20 minutes of PILATES and couldn't do the other 10. That's PITIFUL. This is from a woman who can usually jog 4 miles no prob, do at least 700 stomach crunches in one sitting, and do 35 minutes of intense TaeBo. I know something is wrong when I can't catch my breath after making 2 beds. Sheesh!
