"Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there will it lie. " Ecclesiastes 11:3b
You know, I realize that Solomon was a very very very wise man because God answered his request for wisdom; BUT when I read this verse this morning all I could think of was..."well, DUH!"
LOL I did glean from other verses around there but I just wanted to share a laugh with everyone this morning.
Y'all have a good day now, ya'hear!
Blessings!- Angela :)

Haha! When I first read the verse, I was like "Thank you Captain Obvious," but you know what, I'm sure there is some deep spiritual meaning in there somewhere that I am too dense to grasp. Maybe it's more poetic sounding in the original language! Very funny though.
I know Tia. I'm afraid I must be missing something big too. sigh.
:)
Well, count me into the "too dense to grasp it" club, too. LOL
I’ve got it! It was driving me crazy, so I did some digging.
Ok. Eccl. 11:3 was used for a very long time by some sects within Judaism to prove that this life is all there is. They did not believe in heaven or hell, that once a person died, they cease to exist. However, most interpreters agree that this verse is a poetic means of reminding us that some things in our life are irreversible. You cannot do anything more in this life, after you die. It’s a metaphor for the finality of death, so people will not take the little time they have for granted.
SO COOL TIA!!
Thanks for taking the time to do that. I figured that it must mean something. After all, we're reading SOLOMON'S wise words there. :):)
I love tia lynn's answer and I do believe she is right.

I thought it was going to be a reckneck joke since it was talking about the north and south. In south it would have been
"That there tree just fell."
In the north:
"It fell, So what!"
I will leave the deep meanings to Tia.....
I think good ole solomon could appreciate a classic north/south joke. After all, wasn't israel split into two kingdoms during his time. I wonder if the south was full of republican rednecks and the north filled with liberal moral relativists? Now how's that for stereotyping! :)
