Snake Day

That's what we did today. Snake Day at the Elachee Nature Center. It was SO much FUN!! The price was totally reasonable ( $5.00 per adult, $3.00 per child) and there were free crafts to make. Our older boys even got a free T-Shirt. There were lots of different snakes to see and some to touch.

We arrived there at about 10:00am. That's when it opened. We looked at a huge snapping turtle, some box turtles (which they were allowed to touch) and played with a dinosaur fossil exhibit. From there we went to the teaching room where they learned about snakes and amphibians. Gid was fussy after about 20 minutes so we went to look at more displays while we waited for the boys.

The boys were wild with delight that they got to touch several corn snakes. They even got a certificate of bravery. :) They also got snakes painted on their faces. After that we looked at some live animal exhibits: several different kinds of snakes, salamanders, frogs, etc.

Michael was hungry at about 11:45 so we got our picnic lunch out of the van and ate in the woods at a picnic table. The boys spent most of lunch roaming around looking for animals to study. (LOL You'd think these were poor ol' city kids who'd never seen animals before. )

After lunch Michael was really sleepy so he and Gideon went to the van for a nap. :)

The bigs and I went to make snake crafts. Judah made a rattlesnake egg craft, and both boys made: bottlecap snakes, magnetic snakes, and stamped snake papers. They had a great time!! I had fun watching them. After the snake crafts we went into another exhibit that we had missed in the morning. Those were bigger snakes. Yipee. We also noticed a display where you could see what you would weigh on each planet. :) That was lots of fun because we are studying gravity in Science now and it fit in quite nicely with that.

Right before we left the boys wanted to get a snake painted on their arms too and she said yes because there was virtually no line.

Overall it was a great day!! Very educational and super fun for a GREAT price.
