Update

I would give this a better title but it fits and my brain is tired. :)

So, here's the short lowdown on all that's going on with the business- for those of you who are praying...(thank-you, thank-you)

Workers Comp went pretty well once all the paperwork was filed. (and it took a bit of time to get all that in) Richard will be taken care of for awhile so we're pleased about that.
He should be able to start looking for another job in early January. Yes, sigh, you did read that right. Richard is no longer with us. It was a very very hard decision but we feel we made the right one; even though it wasn't the easy one. You see, he remembered what happened, and, well, it wasn't exactly good. He saw what he believed to be a dog and tried to swerve to miss it. The wheels went off the road and with no time to correct, the weight of the truck sent him down the embankment. The prob is he was told (MORE than once) NEVER NEVER NEVER to swerve for a dog. People yes, other cars yes, dogs-no. (so sorry Tia, please don't cry) It's not that we are sadistic and hate animals. (In fact for the "problem" dogs Michael encounters on the route he carries dog biscuits in the cab and tosses them to the dogs. He makes friends with the dogs so that he won't have to use Pepper spray.) The reason you cannot swerve for animals in the trucks we have is that they weigh 19,500 pounds. They are just too heavy of a vehicle to swerve, because you could do what Richard did. He's very blessed to even be alive and it may have been cemented in his brain not to swerve now but we just cannot take that chance with our only other expensive truck. Plus, at one point when I was REALLY wanting to keep him I felt that I was wanting him to stay for some of the wrong reasons. I wanted him to stay so that our family would not have to go through what it is currently going through (for an indefinite amount of time) but I truly felt that I was being selfish. What about Richard's life? What if he reacted the same way in that situation again and ended up dying. We're very very grateful that he didn't hit another vehicle and kill or maim another person. We would have never been able to recover from the lawsuits. So, at the worst possible time of year we had to let him go. It broke our hearts to have to tell him-especially this close to Christmas. BIG sigh.
They are officially totalling the truck and packer. We are waiting for a number as to what they can pay us.

In other news got our Science and Social Studies/History curriculum last week. We did our first lessons with them on Friday. The boys really liked the work, even Thomas who doesn't always like school.
Thomas said something so cute during the science lesson.
We were talking about rainbows. We had read in the Bible about what a rainbow means to God. Then we were talking about what you have to have to make a rainbow (water and sun- or moisture and light ) They understood that you had to have both. The next question I was supposed to ask then was this-Can you see a rainbow at night? Right away Thomas said, "No!" I asked him why you can't and he looked at me like I was a bit slow and said sweetly, "because you're asleep." It was TOO awesome. I told him that his answer was correct and asked Judah the same question. His response was textbook correct- "because there's no sun at night, Mommy."
I love that Thomas thinks outside the box. My husband says it was just his common sense kicking in. Either way it was TOO FUNNY!

Gotta go, It's getting late. Blessings!- Angela :)

We understand that when you're running a business, you have to do what you have to do. I can't imagine the weight you must feel having to let Richard go during the holiday season, but you have to find some way to make peace with your decision.

That sounds like a bright kid you have there! I'm glad you've been able to get back into your school routine.
