Day 13 of Weaning and Roadtrip Musings

It's day 13 of weaning. He still asks 2-3 times a day. However, I'm happy to report that he no longer seems as upset by it. Maybe he's holding out hope that if he keeps a good attitude he'll get what he wants. :(

In other, more comical news...

MUSINGS FROM THE ROAD:
As most of you know my dad had surgery last Thursday and I took our 6 year old up to Ohio with me to give him some moral support. Since my husband had a work conference last Wednesday we couldn’t leave till 5:00pm Wednesday night. So, we drove about 7 ½ hours that night and 5 the next morning. While I was driving in the “middle of the night” random thoughts kept coming into my head. I thought I would amuse you at a look inside my brain in the dead of night, deep in the hills of West Virginia.

Construction Is A Lot Like Labor.
First you are stuck, then you slowly crawl forward, then you sit still for awhile getting more impatient and more and more irritable. Just when you think you will never move forward, WHOOSH, it unsticks and away you go with this awesome sense of release and relief.

Think About The Name For Your Business Carefully.
For example, if you are going to open a sleazy porn store, oh excuse me the PC term is apparently “adult bookstore”; why not give it an alluring name. I mean think for just a minute…wouldn’t the name THE LION’S DEN scare off potential customers? Hopefully it does.  (All kidding aside please pray for truckers who are faced with that kind of temptation regularly. Those particular kinds of “stores” or entertainment seem to pop up near or adjacent to truck stops. It’s really sad. These men are away from their loved ones for days at a time.)

What A Rush!

There is something so exhilarating and slightly suicidal about flying through the mountains of West Virginia, going 75 MPH, in the dead of night, next to exhausted truckers, in an oversized roller skate that gets 40 miles to the gallon.

I'll have more details later. The trip was a bit hard and I am still recovering from pneumonia. I was hoping to be able to do more by now. Sigh. Pray for speedy healing. My boy want me to play with them again. :)

Blessings!- Angela :)

The Weaning Saga Continues

Well this is day 6 of Wean the Toddler. Again I say, "DON'T!"

I'm just kidding but he still asks for it. Every day. Many times a day. He just doesn't throw many fits anymore. ;) Now he only looks pitiful and sad.

I keep telling him that the milk is "gone". He keeps lifting my shirt and pointing.
I can just hear him thinking, "It's STILL there! Look!" LOL

Judah and I leave tomorrow evening for Ohio. Please pray for safe travel and GOOD timing on the road.

I am recovering slowly from the pneumonia. Today I felt the best I had in awhile till I played "ROAR!" with the boys and then cleaned 5bathrooms. :)

I have Judah and I all packed. I have snacks both for tomorrow evening and the next day; thus cutting down the times we need to stop at McDeath. heehee

The chores are also caught up. I just need to sweep and mop tomorrow as well as load the car. Thomas and I are going on a "date" tonight. He is looking forward to it. I am going to miss both him and Gid while I am gone. :(:(

I am looking forward to going to see my family even if it is not the best of situations. My dad said not to come if I wasn't well but I replied, "ARE YOU KIDDING? I'm coming no matter how badly I feel. I'm no longer contagious, and I'm only bringing ONE child with me. I won't have to cook or clean while I am there. I will get more rest at your house than I do here." lol

Sorry if this is a bit disjointed. My brain is tired.

I hope that everyone is doing well and having a great time doing summer things.

Blessings!- Angela :)

Check This Out!

This is an article from the BBC News in the UK.

A minister posed as a tramp and gatecrashed his own service to teach churchgoers about "acceptance".

The Reverend Derek Rigby donned a wig and some torn clothes and surrounded himself with lager cans and syringes in the church doorway on Sunday morning.

Most of the congregation at the Trinity Methodist Church in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, ignored the intruder.

Mr Rigby said most were "embarrassed" by their behaviour when he finally revealed himself during the service.

The former police officer had told the congregation he would be late for Sunday's service, and only informed one church member of his true plans, in case anyone decided to dial 999.
The minister said he did not shave for three days and drew on tattoos to make his appearance more convincing.

He said: "I couldn't take the car in case anyone spotted it, so I walked from my home to the church. That was interesting, because my neighbours avoided me.

"I had bought clothes from a charity shop - which were immaculate - so I had to dirty them up a bit and I poured a bit of lager on them.

"When I got to the church I arranged a couple of cans and some plastic syringes, without needles, which I have at home for the dog. It gave the impression of a real down and out."

He added: "None of them spoke to me, apart from a few who told me off and told me to get away from their cars, which they kept checking.

"They all ignored me."
He waited until the children had left the church to join their Sunday School before walking to the front of the building and revealing his identity to the congregation.

He said: "Some were very embarrassed. Nobody was angry with me but they were shocked they had ignored me in the way they had.

"They could have given me a cup of coffee.

"I was surprised rather than disappointed. Some people said they wished I had been there because I would have known how to deal with the situation."

Mr Rigby said he had intended to communicate a "serious message of acceptance in an emotive way", and used the example of the Disciples not recognising Jesus on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection.

He said he had tried a similar stunt twice before in Newport and London - where the congregations had been more generous.

He added: "I told them they were stingy because I had been given as much as £4.50, a packet of biscuits and a blanket in the other places, but in Prestatyn I got nothing.

"Although, I'm sure that wouldn't happen again."

Weaning a 2 1/2 year old

My advice...DON'T. Heehee Well, not cold turkey anyway. :)

Here's how it's gone so far.

This is how YESTERDAY went...

We had a little (ahem) training session with Gideon this morning. He was rather upset about the whole thing. He's 2 1/2 so he understood that Mommy was sick and on meds but he was ANGRY and sad that he couldn't nurse. She screamed, he kicked, he hit, he got swatted over and over and over. He finally figured it out. Hopefully it will only take one showdown like that.

Later he kept pointing at his teeth while asking to nurse.
We got him some Tylenol instead but it was sad.

He asked several times and we ended up having several training sessions.

Bedtime was rough.
I sat in the rocker with him on my lap with a blanket. I even gave him *chocolate* milk in a sippy cup. He was SO happy. Then he asked to lay down with me- and nurse.
Keeping him in his bed took a showdown also. I had to sit next to his bed for an hour. :)

He did sleep through the night.

TODAY
He did ask to nurse this morning but he didn't demand. He just looked upset that he couldn't. :(

Michael took him to pick up cans today so that will help. :)

Gotta go. Boys are frustrated. Blessings!- Angela :)

This is Really Cool!

The Moral of the Story

About 13 days ago I had the "flu". Nausea, chills, shaking, fever, headache, bad muscle aches, etc. I developed a small cough. I went to the dr about 5 or so days into it to get evaluated. I wanted to make sure that neither bronchitis nor pneumonia was setting in. I had a bad feeling.

Anyway, the dr said that my lungs sounded clear. I asked for a chest x-ray because I had a strong feeling that it might be pneumonia setting in. Chest x-ray came up clear. I was puzzled. I REALLY thought I'd have something show up on it.

8 days later (that'd be this morning) I woke up coughing and couldn't stop. I had a coughing "fit" that lasted almost 20 minutes. All day I couldn't take a deep breath. If I took small breaths it was OK but if I took a deep breath I would cough and cough and cough.

Michael told me to go back to the dr. I went to a different one this time. (not because the first one was incompetent but because I was embarrassed) Well this dr listened to my lungs for quite a few minutes and said, "Yes, I hear fluid in your lower right lung."

I have pneumonia. He RXed meds that Gid cannot ingest. Therefore we have to wean tomorrow. Cold turkey. BIG fun- weaning a child who DOES NOT want to wean while having pneumonia is on the list of things I NEVER want to do. (God PLEASE give me strength!!!!)

So, the moral of the story is...if you have prophetic giftings...wait till you are coughing your head off before going to the dr. You'll save a lot of money that way!! haha!!

Any prayers would be MUCH appreciated.

I am travelling to Ohio with Judah next week. We just found out that my dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and there is also a tumor in his bladder. They are removing the tumor first and then they will deal with the prostate cancer. The cancer is not expected to grow rapidly. Please pray for peace and for health!! Thanks so much.

Blessings!- Angela :)

Independence Day Celebration

Here are the pics from Vogel State Park 4th of July celebration. We had a lot of fun.

First, we ate our picnic lunch that we had brought with us. We ate it near the lake on a nice thick sleeping bag.

The boys signaled the end of lunch. :)

After lunch I headed out here.

And saw views like this:

Michael and the boys headed over to the lake to go swimming.

They had a good time as well.

Hey boys! Let's go over to the games.

Getting ready for their first ever 3 legged race.

Which they won by the way. They each got a ticket good for either a free round of golf or a free 1/2 hour paddle boat ride.

Sack race!! They didn't win this one. :)

Michael didn't win in his heat either

but he was awfully fun to watch. heehee

I didn't get a pic of the water balloon toss (which we didn't enter because they ran out of balloons) or the egg toss. Also missed the shoe toss which our kids took first and second in thus winning another 2 tickets for our family. :)

Dizzy Izzy bat race.

They had slow girls on their team so they didn't win this one either.

The watermelon eating "contest" didn't happen but they gave free watermelon out to anyone who wanted one. Yeah!

Watching the races. They did each race in catagories: 4 and under, 5-6 yrs, 7-8 yrs, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-17 yrs, adults, senior citizens. So there was a lot of sitting around.

But that was fun too.

We go to hang out together.

and take silly photos

Is this not the CUTEST picture?!!

A little girl offered our boys some popsicles. This pic was particuarly hilarious.

The greased pole climb was the last event. Since they greased it with lotion and not lard we let the boys enter. They had a GREAT time.

We left before they declared the winner.

We had a really nice day. Michael and I did the 3 legged race but, other than that, I didn't do anything. Still recovering slowly from this virus. I did take another paddle boat ride around the lake so the kids could use their tickets.

Gotta go. Three little boys are calling. :)
Blessings!- Angela :)

It's Good To Be Back

in the land of the mostly healthy. I have been ill for almost a week but I think it's about ready to give up now. Whew! Of COURSE, our driver had to get sick and call off work twice (during my sickest days)grrrrr. So, that meant, Michael had to drive and then do work during the evenings on those days too while I tried (key word) to control the kids. hehe It was tough. This too did pass and hopefully I'll be well enough to celebrate our nation's birthday tomorrow. Yeah! Michael wants to head up to Vogel State Park. They are having an old fashioned celebration complete with sandcastle building contest, watermelon eating contest (which I would TOTALLY enter if my stomach was back to normal), egg contest, etc. Sounds fun. Hopefully it won't be too draining. I have not been able to exercise for this entire time. That's been really weird. Yesterday I was tired after walking only 1 mile with my kids. I guess that's pretty good though considering that the day before I could barely make it across my yard (no kidding). :)

Things are OK here. No one else seems to be getting it so that's a really big praise. I do have things to say but my brain is very slow tonight so they will have to keep for another day. I hope that everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow. Blessings! - Angela :)
